Seeds are generated in various plant groups, and the method of production sets apart enclosed seeds from naked seeds. Enclosed seeds are formed within a robust or pulpy structure known as a fruit, serving as a protective enclosure to ensure the seeds' healthy development. Some fruits exhibit a combination of both rigid and pulpy layers. In contrast, naked seeds lack a distinct structure to envelop them, initiating their development "naked" on the bracts of cones. Nevertheless, in certain conifer species, the seeds eventually become shielded by the cone scales during their maturation process.
